The internet is a good source of information for GPs about musculoskeletal diseases. The major Rheumatology journals are available online, and there are good sites that serve as portals to the latest advances in the field. General medical and patient information resources give a good background to musculoskeletal diseases.
Best sites for clinicians:
RheumatologyWeb
This site is maintained in association with the New York University School
of Medicine and its Advisory Board includes many prominent American Rheumatologists.
Each week a selection of topical issues are discussed and archived for
later reference. There is a "case of the month" feature and a slide library
of PowerPoint presentations. A password for access to the site can be
obtained free of charge. Registrants can receive an email each week to
let them know what the latest edition contains.
JointandBone.org
This site is excellent for both its layout and content. It includes the
latest in news about rheumatology research and politics, including updates
from conferences. There is a forum section for the exchange of opinions
and discussion of cases. There are audiovisual case presentations and
access to online journals. Registration is required and email notification
is optional.
American
College of Rheumatology
An essential site for rheumatologists as a source of meeting information
and registration details as well as limited access to the ACR journal
Arthritis and Rheumatism (full access for members). Other clinicians may
find it helpful as a source of updates and patient information.
